Kayak Kaper

Hello everyone, well apologies again for being a slacker blog updater. Now the issue is that my parents have lost the camera charger and the camera battery is, you guessed it, dead. so just throwing some old pictures out there for now..... and now something a little different this week, the kayak kaper story....

When we showed up at the lake house last Saturday, our kayak was MIA. Now everyone leaves their canoes and kayaks out on their lawns etc, so it seemed pretty strange that our kayak was targeted for thievery. But alas it only seemed logical that it must have been commandeered. Here is a picture of said kayak during the floods last year:

My mommers really loves this kayak and was quite looking forward to taking me for rides next year on it! So she planned to file a police report on Monday and hand out fliers (not unlike those you see for a lost cat). While dadders looked on craigslist to see if there was a similar kayak for sale in the area.
On Sunday, we saw an orange kayak on the lake, but it turned out to be just a one person kayak, so we didn't go interrogate them. (But suspicious really, it was 35degrees outside, who kayaks in that weather, alas I digress) Later, we pulled our boat out since the weather has gotten so cold, (we lost hope for one last good boating day. ) Now picture this, dadders is attempting to back the boat into the garage, I was pretty unhappy that no one was holding me, so I was SCREAMING MY HEAD OFF from the backseat as dadders was desperately concentrating, then a random dog came up and kept running under the trailer and all around further complicating the boat backing. Mommers was trying to chase it down, and still trying to let dadders know if he was going to hit the garage with the boat. Several neighbors walked by who all seemed to feel this site was highly amusing, by pointing and laughing histerically.

Then a police car came by and mommers flagged it down, to see if he might be so kind to return the crazy dog who was making the boat backing quite difficult, and also to report her missing kayak. The kind officer eventually got the doggie put away. Mommers then told him about our missing kayak, and low and behold! indeed the police had picked up the kayak just floating in the lake earlier this week. Turns out there was a mighty windstorm that must have blew the kayak off the dock, which is quite amazing since this kayak is pretty heavy. We headed over to the station to ID our kayak and take it home. Which was another small feat, strapping the kayak to the roof of your car might seem straightforward, but its really quite a challenge. I believe I saved the day by giving up my baby blanket to keep the kayak from scratching the roof of the car.

The moral of the story is, tie your kayak to your dock......
